Neuro-Enhancement: Responsible Research and Innovation

Neuro-Enhancement: Responsible Research and Innovation

This project contributes to the introduction of responsible research and innovation (RRI) related to neuro-enhancement. Mobilisation and mutual learning (MML) activities will be organized, engaging scientists, policy makers, industry, civil society groups and the wider public.

The project consortium comprises 17 partners from 11 European countries and includes experts from neuro-cognitive sciences, social sciences, humanities and science communication.

Stages of the project:

a) Mapping neuro-enhancement technologies, whether currently available, experimental or hypothetical. Each technology raises specific ethical, legal, social and economic issues to the public and the different stakeholders.

b) Organise, stimulate and mobilise the public and different stakeholders for consultations on specific subjects related to cognitive enhancement. State-of-the art methodologies will be used to manage the diversity of public opinions, needs, hopes and fears.

c) Summarise results of the consultations in each partner country aiming at the definition of a normative framework based on citizen views.

d) Disseminate results of the consultations to maximise project’s impacts at European level.
